How to Make Hojicha

Proper brewing will help you get the most enjoyment from our tea! The following tips and guidelines will help you make delicious hojicha at home. Japanese tea is normally enjoyed over multiple brewings, and we enjoy the evolving taste and aroma with each consecutive brew.


Guides for Hot Loose Leaf Teas

Standard Brewing of Hojicha

  1. Add proper amount of leaves to teapot (2 tbsp. / 4 servings).
  2. Pour boiling water into the pot, about 7 oz per serving.
  3. Allow about 30 seconds of brewing time.
  4. Pour evenly into each cup, until the flavor-rich final drops.

Boiling 30 sec.

Hojicha Latte

Maruyoshi Hojicha Syrup 1 tbsp.
Milk 7 oz.

Blend together, and enjoy either hot or cold!


Hojicha Non-dairy Latte

Maruyoshi Hojicha Syrup 1 tbsp.
Soy Milk, or similar non-dairy 7 oz.

Blend together, and enjoy either hot or cold!


Ice Cream Topped with Hojicha Syrup

Vanilla ice cream preferred amount
Maruyoshi Hojicha Syrup preferred amount

Go with classic vanilla or experiment with your own flavors!


Yogurt Topped with Hojicha Syrup

Vanilla yogurt preferred amount
Maruyoshi Hojicha Syrup preferred amount

We recommend plain vanilla yogurt, but feel free to experiment!


Hojicha Soda

Maruyoshi Hojicha Syrup 1-2 tbsp.
Liquid sweetener (for easy mixing) 1-2 tbsp.
Ice cubes any amount
Sparkling water 3.5 oz

Try adding vanilla ice cream on top for a special treat!


Hojicha Banana Smoothie

Maruyoshi Hojicha Syrup 2 tbsp.
Banana 1 pc.
Sugar/sweetener a dash
Milk 7 oz

Combine all in a juice mixer and blend!


Hojicha Cocktail

Maruyoshi Hojicha Syrup 1 tbsp.
Ice cubes any amount
Liquor (rum, vodka, gin, etc.) 1.5 - 2 oz
Sparkling water, milk, other 3.5 oz
